I am going to get my hedgehog today. What can I do to make the ride as easy as possible for him? It is about a three hour drive. Right now I am going to put him in a tub with shavings and his blankie (which smells like me). Should I put a lid on it?

i use a cat carrier with wolfgang, and i think most people would recommend the same. i lined it all with fleece and put in his pvc pipe. it was two hours from the breeder back to our house, and he did just fine. he slept most of the way and only woke up when he smelled chicken.
i held the carrier in my lap, but next time i'll buckle him into the backseat as logic says it would be much safer.

Hey!
I kindda have the same problem but the only thing is that we'll be tight in the car because if i'm not going to bet her with my whole family(we're going on a vacation right before) we're oing to bet her right after university... is there something smaller than a cat carier that i can taker her in??

Thanks
Mymy, With other animals I have used a cardboard box. If you put a blankie, pipe, or hedgiebag in it it should be ok. From what I've heard they will sleep anyways.

I had to drive all the way to St. Louis from Minneapolis/St. Paul to get my first hedgehog. We just made sure we had a little bit of food in there for her (from the breeder) and that we sporadically offered her some water (again from the breeder). If you are going to go with a cardboard box, make sure that the walls are high enough and/or you can fold down the top. I've seen some really, really squirrelly little ones that can climb pretty high up those cardboard walls!

When we picked up two hedgies from an airport that was a good 3 hour drive we just used a small plastic tub with a blanket (receiving for a baby). I suggest bringing more than one. Because the hedgie went potty and we forgot to bring extra! ALso if that happens I would bring a plastic bag to tie the dirty one in because the smell in a closed car can get pretty bad. Good luck!

We just got home. He spent all of the ride exploring our laps and turning his hedgiebag inside out.

Ooooooh! Congratulations! Sounds like he is already well on his way to knowing just who his mommy is!
