Hey everyone, I just got my first couple of chins from a girl who couldn't keep them anymore. They are about 3 years old. She never held them so I have got a lot of work ahead of me. They are male and female but have never had babies. Is that normal? One is dark gray with a white belly and the other is kind of tanish light light graish with spots on her ears. They are very cute and love raisens. It's hard not to give them more then one a day when they beg! I named the girl Chilla and the boy Gordo because he is very very fat! I also have 3 rats, Abby, Dumbo, and Kyu, 2 cats, Snowball and Key, and a wesite pup named Charlie. I am glad I found this place, I think I will learn a lot from it! I plan on asking a lot of questions!!

Hello and Welcome!

You don't happen to know if the previous owner had the boy neutered do you? I'd say without that happening, your girl could get pregnant at any time. Unless of course they were mis-sexed by whomever she purchased them from, and she never tried to find out for sure. But you say she never held them, so there is a good chance she didn't. You may want to read up about sexing your chins, and make sure you have a boy and a girl, because you WILL end up with babies otherwise, more than likely.

I'd say that should be your first bit of business with them!

We like to see pictures here, please :hyper:

Welcome to the forum. It is a great place for you to learn about the new members of your family. I would definitely make sure about the sex of the two of them. Then there are so many other things to check out. Enjoy!

hello and welcome to Chins and quills! You will find tons and tons of great info here. One note: Make sure that that male chin has been neutered, because if he hasn't, your probably gonna be running into a brick wall of other stuff dealing with breeding. But congrats on your new chin!

Welcome! There are some pictures on here if you do a search you could double check if they are a boy and girl. Or you could go to a good vet and they could tell you. It would be a good excuse to find out how much your vet really knows about chins. Have fun with your new chinnies!

It sounds like you have a standard and a hetero biege. Feeding them only a few raisins is hard 'cause they love them sooo much. I'm glad to hear you are practicing self control. Go and get some unsalted or lightly salted tropical trail mix (dried apricots, banana chips, papaya, pineapple) these come in bigger piecesand it takes tham longer to eat. More satisfying. You can also give them apple horse cookies.

Welcome to chins-and-quills! I hope your animals and you enjoy the place. Shredded wheat is something our chinnies like. Rose hips are something else your chinnies should love.
