But I didn't give it to her! I know better than to feed her gum, :p

I was chewing gum today, and gently blowing the mint scent in Hemi's direction. She started sticking her tongue out, without making contact with anything, and began to annoint.

Has anyone else ever had a hedgehog annoint to the scent of something? I just found it so hilarious.

Oh, Hemi never annointed over anything until recently. Now she annoints over anything she eats that's "different". I let her lick a vitamin-c candy the other day, and she annointed for 10 minutes. I give her little bits of anything on the "bland" side to sample.

Is that okay for hedgies? I've run out of ideas for new things to show her...

I'm sure licking a vitamin-c candy thing can't hurt them. I think it's just real acidic fruit like oranges and lemons that they can't have. A couple licks of an imitation orange-flavor won't hurt.

OK thanks.

Oranges won't hurt them. I've given them the baby mandarin oranges before. Don't give too much, only 1 small section at most.

Oh, cool. I thought I read something that oranges were bad to give them, due to the acidity of the fruit. But awesome, I'll have to share a piece of an orange with my brat next time.

I swear, she eats better than me.

well, i discovered inadvertently last night that wolfgang is a chocolate fiend. (like you say, i didnt actually give him any, but he flipped out just the same).

i had him out on the bed last night where he was very contentedly exploring the folds of our comforter. having just done three loads of laundry (which is my LEAST favorite chore) i felt like i deserved a reward, so i got a bit of chocolate.

wolfgang was about a foot and a half away from me and as soon as i took my first bite, he did this 180 and looked RIGHT at me with his nose up in the air and twitching. he sat there for a second, and then he raced over to me with his legs going in all directions and his nose still going in the air. then he put his little hand on my knee, sniffing sniffing the air, then his tongue came out and he started sort of twitching.

before i knew it he was anointing like mad.

i was like, "if this is how you act just SMELLING it, no way will you ever get any to EAT."
