I am relatively new to the forum, but I have noticed that some people just post to post and get their posting numbers up. As few as 100 posts can make you a senior member. Typically I would look to a senior member for help, but after researching so of their other posts, I realize that not all members that post have reliable opinions that I want to trust my chin's life with. So I was wondering, do you look at the status of the member when weighing their advice? or do you just take it for what it is?

I take it for what it is, and decide if I should follow it or not. Once your here for awhile, you will see which people have the best and most accurate advice. There are a few here I trust much more than most.

To tell you the truth I don't even pay attention to the number of posts. I think it's relatively easy to pick out who knows what they're talking about and who is just posting to post. I frequent the Health threads a lot mainly to read about ailments and things I should look for. That's where you really find the people who have years of experience with chins and are filled with knowledge. However even amongst the senior members and the people who have equal experience with chins you will find debate and differences of opinion. There's plenty of knowledgeable, kind and helpful people on here and after a while of surfing the threads and being an active poster you will know who to take advice from and who to ignore. Welcome! :hyper:

I agree, once you're here a while, you'll know who to go to for good advice. I actually made the same mistake many years ago. I was looking to buy chins and found someone that I thought was reputable because they had been here a while, had been posting a lot, was a senior member etc...etc...years later, I find out that they're a horrible (and disrespected) breeder. These days (after years on the forums) I know who to go to. For newbies, that'd be my recommendation...take each post for what it's worth. If a lot of old timers are agreeing on the same issue (say, what to do with a unhealthy animal) then I'd believe the common consensus. Now, if it's something in the debate section...pretty much always take it for what it's worth as those are usually opinionated threads.

I don't follow the post count either. There are many people who do just post to get their post counts up, just post saying "awe how cute" to pictures, and don't really contribute information to the forums. There are others, who may have 100 or 200 posts, but they are all well thought out, informantional posts.

nope. there are people who post very very little but when they do have something to say i pay attention. and then there are the others... and everything in between... (don't misunderstand me, there ARE people who do post a lot and really know what they are talking about.)

I am with everyone else. I think that numbers really do not matter. Just because someone has high or low post does not mean that the know what they are talking about. Somone could have almost no post as they are new here, but have owned chins for years. Also Post do not reflect ones research or education. Some people like to get on here and talk everyday and some just on occation. So the numbers really do not matter
I basically agree with everyone else here. I listen to the post and I don't really pay attention to number of posts or ranking

I don't really pay attention to anyone's ranking. Numbers can be deceiving to say the least. You can usually get a pretty good feel for someone after only reading a couple of posts. There are quite a few people with really high post counts, but nothing to say. There are also those who say little, but what they do say is worth heeding. Although research does not equal actual experience, sometimes a person who has done their research is more worth taking advice from than someone with years of owning chins. Sometimes there are people who have had chins for years and years, but done everything wrong. There are those who have only owned chins a short time, but do everything right...and vice versa. There are those situations, however, that research cannot prepare you for...where you can read and read, but it is best to know where to turn. Numbers mean nothing...content is what counts.

not always, but sometimes, it does make a difference to me, but i also always take notice when newbies give me good advice.
