Dog food is harder and usually larger making it difficult to eat and can cause premature tooth wear. :)

I haven't used Hill Science dog food, but I have found Royal Canin for small breeds. The smal breed version being key because the kibbles are just as small as the cat food kibble. I mix it with Royal Canin Slim 38 cat food and Chicken Soup. Razzle seems to like it (unlike Royal Canin Slim - he won't touch that!)

I think good dog foods are okay to feed hedgies as long as you make them easy for the hedgie to eat, but I would NOT feed Science Diet to ANYTHING! It is a crap food and i hate the vets recommend it to people. I would steer away from it. Science Diet is bad.

Is Chicken Soup Dog food ok? It is the same size as the cat food.

The Chicken soup dog food is the same size kibble as the cat food??? Are you sure? The cat food is shaped like an "X" and the dog food is round piece of kibble. I also use the Royal Canin Mini Bites as part of my mix. It's higher in fiber, but most of the hedgies seem to ignore it.

I wouldn't feed the science diet or any dog kibble that size unless you took a hammer to it and broke it up in smaller pieces. If you can get the Chicken Soup in your area, stick with the cat version

I use it (CSFTDLS) in my mix and it is smaller than the Wellness Weight Management, Premuim Edge Light, and CSFTCLS Light kibble. I bought the 1 1/2 lb. bag. He eats it just the same and I don't think it is any harder. It is small circles.

I use 2 types of dog food in my mix. They are both for "small" dogs- therefore are about the same size as cat food.

Dog food is also known for being a bit higher in fiber than cat food (something that is good for hedgies) and lower in vitamin A than cat food (also good for hedgies). With that said, I use a mixture of dog foods, and cat foods for the boys.

Also, I wouldnt recommend just using Science Diet (any type) as the sole food for your hedgie. One of my boys is on it- because he will NOT eat anything else. The difference between his skin, quills, fur etc is noticable when looking at the other two who are on good, high quality diets.
