Last saturday, we booked an apointment for Litchi's first vet visit (make sure she's #1 because of her weigt loss). Like I expected, she trow up everywhere in her hegie bag on the car trip it was less than 20 minutes, but so much "chicken hole" (I don't know if you call "nid-de-poule" like that in english...) on the road.

When the vet examined her, she only wanted to run around, she just wouldn't stop. She never balled up, the vet told us she was the niceset hedgehog she met (she had one to check on the same day and he wasn't nice as Litchi). She also said we done well our reseach because of what we feed her, her bedding, weel etc. She said some people just see an hedgie in a pet store and they buy it without knowing all the care to give them.

Everything was fine with Litchi, her weigt loss is normal beacause sometime juvenile start moving a lot more and it's nothing to be scared of. I just give her a bit more mealies and watch her weigth every week.

I'm just wondering can I do something so she will not be sick in transport? And sould I gave her something after she trow up (I forgot to talk about that to the vet...)?

Some hedgehogs just get horrible motion sickness. I'm not sure if this would work, but maybe you could take her on shorter car rides to get her tummy used to it, and gradually increase the length? However, I'm not sure if that's advised because they're so little and vomitting is probably a bad thing. And I don't know if it would be a good thing to give her something for her tummy...where are the experts? NANCY?! LAURA?! BILLY??!

But it's wonderful she was so good, and her weight loss is normal. Giving extra mealies is good, and you can also give her a bit extra food, maybe increase the fat content in one, if you use a mix. I found that Royal Canin Mini Special dog food worked well to keep weight on Hemi when she was going from the baby to adult stage.

Very often they grow out of carsickness. I've had a couple that as babies and juveniles would get horribly sick but as adults are fine.

Don't feed during the trip or right before they go in the car. There is more chance they will get sick if they have eaten recently. Once you are home you can give her a bit of food and water but not too much at first until her tummy gets settled down.

If you plan to take her for alot of drives, then get her used to the car by taking regular very short drives.

Extra cushioning in the carrier sometimes helps as they don't get bumped around as much.

My Smokey had motion sickness so bad as a baby that walking around the house with him and he would throw up. Now he just loves drives and being carried all over. :)
