Has anyone ever tried using a human pregnancy test on pregnant hedgies?? lol

I was just wondering if it would actually work. :hyper:

I believe it can be used for some animals, but am unsure (so dont hold me to that! )

probably not:

All pregnancy tests look for a special hormone in the urine or blood that is only present when a woman is pregnant. This hormone, human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), is also called the pregnancy hormone.

I'm assuming they don't have the hCG that the tests detect.

I would also guess that the amount of hormone in the urine would be an almost undetectable amount compared to what a human would produce.

No

I don't know about other animals. I had heard a few different people pose the pregnancy test question, so I just had to try it (if you knew me, you'd understand). Anyway, we (myself and another breeder) tried 2 different tests on the same hedgehog and both came up negative. The hedgehog was close to due when we did the tests, and she did end up having a litter.

oh Kelly I love you :) and yeah I would have been temped to try it as well but in Reproduction class last year our professor told us it wouldn't work when someone asked about using it on her dog.
