resizing avatar pic problem

Does anyone else have this problem? I found this great picture that I want to put as my avatar, but even resizing it with Photoshop makes it too big in byte size. I resize it to around size 59, with 8k, but the byte size is always around 48000 or more. Even if I resize it to 1 by 1 the byte size is still way to big, nowhere underneath 8145 or whatever the max limit for byte size is. Can anyone help???

try saving it as a gif insted of a jpg, or something. if you still can't get it by 1:00, PM it to me and I'll try to redo it when I get home from school.

decrease the resolution to 72dpi (usually default is osmething around 300) - 72 is sort of the standard for web-based pictures, and it's plenty good enough.

I have to crop a lot of my pictures to help make them small enough.
