I seen a picture of one cage, and it had no shavings on the bottom but TILES! I was wondering if this is ok for chinchillas. It seems easier to clean and might not be as a bad.. yea!

What would soak up the pee?

as long as the chin isnt trying to destroy the tile, i guess it's fine to use just that.. i wouldnt have it in my cage just due to, i don't have the time, or sit by my chinnies cage all day long, so if he chose to sleep or whatever on the bottom? oh yuck... lol
guess my main concern would be, that at least with the bedding, it's absorbing the urine, and odor.. if you're gone most of the time, the urine is just laying all over the bottom of the cage.. but.. if your chin is trained to use the litter pan's for peeing, you wouldnt have that worry at all..

We don't have shavings in the bottom of our cage, but they only pee in their litter box. I will put in shavings if it gets cold out and they always have hammocks and cuddle cups for comfort as well. I used to try shavings, but mine threw almost all of it out of the cage in minutes and would only sleep where they had gotten rid of it. It also makes it very easy to sweep out all the chinny poo every day.

There are no shaving on my cage bottom as well. I only put shaving in the pull out pan. My chin have a litter box with shaving inside.

I don't use shaving for my older chin, she uses her litter box and sleeps in her cuddle cup or on her chinchilla couch. My baby is still learning the fine arts of using a litter box and when she get's tired she zonks out where ever she stands, so I have shavings everywhere for her.
