I was wondering what states still prohibit ownership of hedgehogs. I have out of state buyers interested, and I'm not sure where they are restricted.

On the map on this link, Vermont is colored in as if hedgies are illegal, but they are legal now, whoo hoo. Just an FYI, since Vermont is not on the list below the map as being an illegal state.

Because we are closer to you- PA-- It's a BIG no here. Some people still think they are legal, and may tell you so--and honestly think that they are.

Hedgehogs: Are They Legal in Your State? (http://www.hedgehogworld.com/content/view/96/42/)

There is my article from Hedgehogworld.com on where hedgehogs are legal. It also includes the contact info for your state's F&G department.

that's absolutely ridiculous that HedgeHogs are illegal in PA. I know my boyfriend wanted one & I always thought they were really cute & such & now, I find before I can even do any research in them that I can't even have one anyway. I honestly can't say that I'd get caught with one, bc I really don't think I would, how could I? But this does explain why I can't find any place that sells them :( I don't understand why, it's not like they're a threat to anything at all.... Jeez. I'm sure some zoo's have them. Either way, I think it's pretty ridiculous to prohibit them in any state, except maybe Hawaii, but yeaaah. I mean if we can have skunks as pets, degus, chinchilla's, ferrets & other such rodents, why not them?

If I understand you correctly, you'd get caught with one the first time you needed a vet. It is illegal for a vet to treat a hedgehog in PA and he could lose his license if he did/ Very few vets are willing to risk it - so where would you take him if he was sick?

It's a shame they are banned anywhere. I just don't understand the reasoning there.

Same with Maine, very illegal. There was one lady that was liscensed to take in illegals, then IFW took that away from her and euthanized all the rescues. If you are caught transporting in Maine they will confiscate and kill them.
It is easier to get a liscense to own a pigmy hippo in Maine than a Hedgehog.
