I've been wanting a hedgehog for awhile, been reading up on them for the past month or so to make sure I wanted one. So it took me awhile to find some breeders within driving distance, I've gone to their personal sites and either filled out their questionaire online or through email but so far nobody has even responded. I've probably filled out 4 different questionaires and even emailed some of them seperately asking to just respond, so far it's been over 2 weeks for all of them.

All I want is a simple response, not a definitive answer or anything. I even called one of them up (and yes she has babies for sale now) and she said to just fill out the online form, which I did again afterwards. Just makes me want to look for a different pet now if nobody responds back to me with a simple "I'll back back with you" answer. How long does it take for you guys to respond back typically? Do breeders typically wait a set period of time before responding to let the spontanous buyers out or something? Anything I'm missing or just is it just all the breeders I've contacted just not on top of the ball? Am I answering the wrong answers needed so they just ignore my requests, even so a response still should be taken...

Any breeders near Maryland here have any for sale? Willing to drive a few hours any direction also.

Normally I get back to people within a day or two. It probably depends on how busy a certain breeder is with non-hedgehog life or if they check their email often. I work on my computer so I check my email very often.

I would try www.terrapinhedgehogs.com for hedgehogs in Maryland, I bought a hedgehog from her and she was very nice and the hedgehogs are of good quality.

Ya, that's one of the places (and closest to my house) that I tried and even called and talked with her. I hate to call her again or send a 3rd email. I know not everyone checks their emails regularly, but my 1st email to her I mentioned an SQL error on her site that's been there for at least a couple weeks (along with my hedgie request) then a few days after my email it was SQL error was fixed. But yet I did not hear from her about my hedgie request. That was nearing 3 weeks ago. Alas... I just hate researching more hedgehog info when not knowing if anyone will get back to me, you know? Just a little frustrating.

I check my emails numerous times a day and usually get back to people within 24 hours. Of course sometimes I get backed up on things and my mail does loose messages on occasion. I do try to at least let the person know I've received their email and will get back to them shortly with answers to their questions.

Try adding a read receipt to your email so you'll know if it has at least been looked at. If it's been looked at and still not answered then look elsewhere. :)

Well for email regarding my chins I respond as soon as I read them usually or the next day. I check my emails at least every second day.

Now I know I emailed a few hedgie breeders as well, 1 no answer and the other took 3 emails and didn't get a response for over 2 weeks. Now I realize that people are busy but I think anything over a week is kind of rude. Because one you are waiting to see if the hedgie is still available, two trying to line things up for your future critter, and three because you don't know if they read it or not or if they intend to reply back.

Now this isn't all hedgie breeders or them alone. I emailed a girl about a pup over 3 weeks ago and then re-emailed to ask why she didn't answer back. She said she didn't email back because the answer to my question was "no she didn't have a waiting list." Well was I supposed to guess that no email meant that?! Honestly. Not doing business with her needless to say.

I try to reply within 48 hours, but often this is only to say that I will reply in greater length when I have the next litter of hoglets becoming available. I do try and use the opportunity of the early, brief e-mail reply to refer the prospective buyer to some good research web sites - like hedgehogcentral.com

I sent another email with my secondary email (yahoo) and I got a response back. She said her other emails got fatal errors so that's probably why I didn't hear from her. But still haven't heard from the others yet. But now I'm excited, going to pick up a hedgie w/in a week. Yay!

cool! which breeder are you going to?

when i started asking around, i heard from my breeder w/in a day or so...i didn't go through one of those websites that asks you to fill out questionaires and stuff.

it was easy and i'm really happy with my hedgehog!

I know we have problems or delays receiving emails from certain providers due to their "protection tools". I couldn't tell you how many emails I have missed, or have been severely delayed over the years. :(

I had a very easy time with my breeder also. Her website has a phone number, so I didn't bother with email. When I called, she made an appt. for me right away. I am very happy with my hedgehog so far, and would definitely go to her again.
