Just wanted to give you all an update on Aquila's eye. After medicating her for one week, at the vet's instruction, the eye turned quite cloudy and milky looking. So we took her back in and they discovered that she actually had a hole all the way through her cornea (the cloudiness was a scab that had formed over the hole). Which was bad, because the inside of the eye would be a great place for germs to grow and multiply. So they put her on a third medication and told us to come back in a week. When we came back, the eye had prolapsed, or ruptured, outward. So Aquila is completely blind in that eye forever. She's still on two medications, and has one more appointment with the vet just to make sure everything has healed up and isn't infected.

The vet is as sure as I am that this happened before I got her. I first noticed that the eye was watery the day after I got her from the breeder. The vet thinks that she got poked with another quill, which could have easily happened, especially if a hedgie next to Aquila popped.

I looked back at the breeder's policies, and they would have covered it if Aquila had been younger when I got her. But they have different policies for hedgies over 6 months. But oh, well.

Anyway, just wanted to give you an update!

Poor Aquila but she will adjust just fine to life with one eye. Watching babies I don't know how any of them ever make it to adulthood without being blind.

Its sad that she will be blind in that eye but good that it got treated quickly and she is doing ok. I am sending prayers your way for a speedy recovery.
