I was wondering, what do you all feed your hedgehogs as treats? He loves live crickets and boiled turnips, but I'm trying to find other fruits and veggies that he might like. I don't want to feed live bugs other than crickets (the other ones all gross me out) and he won't eat freeze-dried bugs, so I'm trying to find other things that other people feed their hedgehogs as treats.
Thanks so much

"Treats"
Veggies-
-peas
-cooked carrots
-corn kernels (in moderation)
-cooked potato
-mashed potato
-cooked sweet potato
etc
Fruits
-banana
-strawberry
-blueberry
-watermelon and other melons
-small bits of apple
Meats-
-any cooked, unseasoned meat. Stay away from canned and processed meats as they are high in sodium
-fish- eg broiled salmon
-groud beef (in moderation, its fatty)
-pork (same as beed)
-chicken
-turkey
Others
-scrambled eggs
-cottage cheese
-small amounts of cheese
Baby Foods
-various fruits and veggies
-chicken and gravey
-beef and gravey
-baby food sticks
Just some ideas to get you started. Only try one new treat per night- so if they get an upset tummy from it you will know which treat it was that may have caused it. About 1 tsp of a treat (no need to go crazy with it!).
No onions or avacados.

As long as they are cooked- and even then I would shread the, or cut them up finely. Carrots have a "woody" texture, which can be hard for hedgies to chew, resulting in pieces that can get stuck in the roof of their mouth.

Yeah I figured that out--having them uncooked would be bad for him. SO far I've tried him on:
Canned cat food (didn't eat)
Freeze-dried mealworms (didn't like)
Cantaloupe (wouldn't touch)
Hard-boiled egg (scared off)
Crickets (he loved!!!) :)
and Boiled rutabaga (like turnip) which he loved
So at least there are some treats that he'll eat. And I figure I've got him on a pretty good staple dry food mix, so the treats are just little "extras" that he doesn't actually need to get nutrition.
Thanks for your help

I know apples are a favorite around here. My girl is the fussiest thing ever, and she still refuses to eat any form of insect - live, frozen or canned - but she never turns down a piece of apple.
And I know alot of people will frown on this, but Hemi really enjoys an orange julius (the smoothy, of sorts). I let it warm up to room temperature and give her a tiny bit. She loves it, but won't touch any other form of orange.

I give my girls hard-boiled eggs that have been chopped up, and they love them. I have also had hedgies in the past that loved peanut butter! Just be sure to get the most "natural" kind you can find, because most of the commercial stuff has all kinds of salt and sugar in it. Just a tiny bit on their dry fod is such a treat!
