Monty is 9 and a half weeks old, and this past week not only is he quilling the thick adult quills, he's been losing a lot of the thin hair-like quills. I just noticed a WHOLE BUNCH in his hedgie bag tonight, and most of them had the little ball on the end of the 'hair-quill'

is this normal? when they quill, does that include these thin ones?

I think this is normal, since Hemi sometimes sheds them too. The important thing is that the little ball is on the end, which means that it's a normal shed and nothing forced them out.

Quick question though. The thin hairlike quills...are they white? Because I know the fur on their underside sometimes have a little ball, which is like the root of the hair. Because fur shedding is normal too.

When Litchi was heavily quilling, she lost a bit a fur, I guess it's normal

Yes, they're white and have the ball on the end...i keep hearing that they shed the large quills, and had no idea they shed the regular hairs as well.

The hairs seem to be thicker than their soft body fur, so I'm guessing they're coming from the border where the hair meets the quills. They're also a little annoying because they're digging their way into the fleece and it's hard to get rid of all of them.

Anyhow, thanks for the insight! I am feeling better now about this whole "shed hair & quills" stage.
