I have had Lady Velvet for 3 days and she is really friendly, she does not bite meor ball up when I pick her up, but when im holding her she goes to the bathroom on me alot. and i was woundering why.
Because MR. prickles my other hog does not go to the bathroom on me, but he will not really let me pet him, he jumps and trys to quill me,
so why does she go to the bathroom on me? :hedge3: :dunno:

Thats just what baby hedgehogs do!!

If your other hog isn't friendly that may be why he wont go to the washroom on you-- but babies/young hogs go where ever/ when ever they want;) Marigold used to go on me all the time when I first got her-- babies need to go to the washroom alot and can't control it-- marigodl is older now and rarely goes to the washroom on me anymore!

Yes, that's just one of the err...charms...of a baby hedgehog. Hemi used to be my personal clothing coordinator. If she didn't like what I was wearing, she'd poop or pee on me. I found that waking them up and letting them walk around on the floor for a while before holding them works wonders for cutting down on the mess they leave on their people.

But don't worry, once they turn about 6 or 7 months old, the accidents pretty much stop. Just keep an eye out for the little tail -- when they have to go to the bathroom, they point their tail straight out. It's a little trick I learned by watching Hemi.

Good luck with your baby!

Today I will have had baby Emily for 2 weeks. The first few days, every time I picked her up she would "go" on me like she had been saving it up just for me. How does such a small thing GO in so much volume???? I swear more came out of her than went in. By the fifth day, she stopped - she now waits till she goes back into her cage. Maybe they just want to get their scent on us (like "marking" us) or maybe after awhile they recognize our scent and realize we're not their potties! LOL - guess it's part of hedgie charm?

LOL, maybe...my mother is still amazed by what comes out of Hemi sometimes. Hemi will be playing on the floor and mom will be on the phone: "You should SEE what just came out of Hemi...geez, it's longer than she is!"

My mother is weird.
