You know how dogs will clue in if their people are sick or distressed... has anyone noticed that hedgehogs do this too? Or is Hemi just special?

I ask because last night, I was pretty ill. I had horrible flu-like symptoms and spent alot of the night pacing, and sitting on my bedroom floor to cool down. Instead of wheeling, Hemi spent the entire night up with me, with her front paws propped up on her food bowl so she could look out her cage door at me. Every so often, she'd chirp or squeak at me and then continue watching and sniffing.

When I moved from my spot on the floor to the bathroom, she went to the side of her cage closest to my door and waiting. When I came back and laid down in bed, she moved to the opposite side of her cage that was about a foot from my bed, and watched out her cage at me. This morning, she was still watching me.

When I picked her up to say "good morning", she sniffed my cheek, kind of licked it (she does that sometimes), and chirped at me again. When I put her down, she went right to her bag, and went to sleep.

I just thought it was strange...has anyone else noticed this with a hedgehog they're really bonded to?

Although I'm sure some hedgehogs are very special and they too tune in on their caretakers' illness and/or anxiety or stress, Hemi is an exceptional hedgie indeed. She is so sweet worrying about you...

Hope you're feeling better today, Courtney. Get well soon!

Thank you, I'm already feeling a bit better. I don't feel like I'm quite so overheated anymore (thank goodness). lol.

She turned a year old on February 23. I've had her since she was about 3 months old, so she's had a great deal of time to bond to me like that. :)

That is pretty amazing. I somtimes feel that Herbie knows what I'm feeling/thinking too. Right now my bf is gone for training for his new job and I will take Herbie out and he'll just sit there and look at me with this look and it just makes me feel better....it's like he's saying "daddy will be home soon, don't worry".
Glad you are feeling better too. No wonder Hemi gets so spoiled....she cares so much about her mommy :)

I'm sure Monty will bond just as well to you. :)

That's cute about Herbie...he's the man of the house now, eh? LOL. And I suppose that's why Hemi is so spoiled...she spoils me right back. LOL.
