Okay so here's a quick update. My fellow ansci (animal science major) friend came over and we further investigated the odd blobs. It turns out there were actually 3 babies unfully developed and after speaking with another breeder she beleives the "plancenta full of waste" was actually a 4th hoglet that didn't make it early on in the pregnancy. So that is a grand total of 9 hoglets that she was attempting to carry. Now for those of you that don't know hedgehogs average sized litter is 3-4 hoglets. 9 is extremely large.
Last night she bit the head off of one hoglet that didn't appear to have nursed at all. (I'm guessing something off with it so she took care of it) This morning I found the runt dead (not harmed by Tink in any way) He was extrememly tiny and had no quills.
So the total now is 3 live babies that are still with Tinkerbell. She's tending to them and caring for them so I'm pretty sure if they can survive the next couple of days they will be good. *note: the runt was piled up with the rest of the hoglets not pushed away at all*
I've also installed a webcam into the back of her nest igloo so that I can monitor her and the babies without having to go into the nest box. She tends to lay in front of it though (which is fine by me since it means she's settled) But if you have MSN or aol and would like to see it feel free to message me if I'm around.
