I have a question regarding the "huff" noise I hear everyone talking about. I have been taking Horatio out every night and he does let me pet him without quilling up like he did when I first got him. Last night when I had him in my lap he looked like he was sleeping and his quills were down. He made a noise which to me sounded like a human sigh. I wanted to know if this is what is considered a huff noise. I thought a huff meant that they were annoyed which I don't think he was since his quills were down....Also what does the clicking noise sound like?

Nope, that's just a contented sigh.

A huff would sound more like he was blowing air out of his nostrils, and his "guard" quills would be erect. Chances are, he'd "pop" a bit too, so he'd be jumping forward trying to quill you -- or so I'd believe.

The clicking noise is something I'm not overly experienced with, as I've only heard it once with Hemi. Basically, when they're really scared or angry, they'll huff, pop, and then maybe "click", which sounds almost like a rattly hiss mixed with that noise the lid of a Snapple iced tea drink would make. At least, that's what Hemi did to me. It was followed by a quick bite. :p

The huff is also very quick and repeated over and over again, until the hedgehog calms down.

I always thought the "huff" sounded like a rattlesnake. It's more like a "hiss" than a huff.

It sounds like Horatio was just comfy and content with a nice sigh!! :)

I have had experience with the clicking sound, unfortunately. Razzle is a fraidyhog and clicks at new people, and especially at the vet. The Snapple Ice Tea comparison is perfect!!! It really does sound like that!

When Monty has been laying down on me, he sometimes does a quick sneeze, i don't know why but it's usually preceeded by a stretch or something.

He will huff if he is touched in certain spots and it's usually combined with a jerky movement up, and sometimes he'll turn to where he's being touched, especially if it's on his side...(perhaps to bite?)

those are the two main sounds i've heard from Monty...hope I don't have to hear any bad ones...
