I moved from Houston to Tulsa, OK last week and am staying in a hotel while I look for a house. Prickles II escaped from his habitat the other night and the next morning I didn't have time to search for him so I left him to "free range" for the day. While I was out, the maid came to clean the room and Prickles II came out of hiding to see what the fuss was all about. He loves the sound of the vacuum cleaner. Needless to say, never having seen a hedgehog in her life he scared the **** out of the maid. I got a call from the hotel asking me to please come an put my “hamster” away. Prickles II greatly resents being called a hamster, so I didn’t tell him about it.

What an adventures little hedgie.
How dare the Maid call him a hamster..........
I'm just glad that she didn't harm him in her scare.
Prickles likes the sound of the vacuum cleaner?
Good luck to you and Prickles in finding a new home.

Hehe cute story.
One time when my family went on a trip to Minneapolis I had to bring my rat along because we couldnt find anyone to look after him.
The maid later questioned us as what that "cute thing" was that we had in our hotel room. She thought it was just the most adorable thing she had ever seen- until we told her it was a rat!

People are so funny! I am sure I unknowingly have funny little quirks too, but how can knowing it was a rat make it any less cute???
I am also amazed by how many people have no clue what a hedgehog is. I am a teacher, so I bring Daisy to school sometimes just so the kids can experience something different. They are always excited to see me hauling in her to-go pen. Most of the adults are too, but only one of them had ever seen a hedgehog before, they only knew about them because of the Jan Brett books. Several of the teachers are afraid of her. We have been starting therapy though.
I am so amazed that the sound of the vacuum in the other story did not scare the hedgehog. I have decided that Daisy HATES loud noises. Today, I was standing at the ATM. It was a new type, so it beeped from the time it spit the envelope out until after you put it back in. Everytime the machine beeped, she jumped! :bump: Silly Girl. They just need to allow animals in the branch. That is all I have to say, because I refuse to leave her in the car.

The cutest thing my hedgies have been called are prickly guinea pigs. A middle school loved my vistis with my critters, and when I was at the school to talk with some friends/ teachers a student tugged on my shirt and asked "When are you going to bring the prickly guinea pigs back?" Or I think it was pokey guinea pigs...it was really cute! I guess my hedgehog lecture/ slide show went in one ear and out the other

I took Damsel into my bank before cause I wasn't leaving her in the car. I just stuck her in a hedgie bag and stuck the hedgie bag in my purse. She even attempted an escape while we were at the teller. The teller was a little surprised but it was a fun trip all in all.

I can easily picture people calling hedgehogs "prickly guinea pigs", "miniature porcupines" or even"(spiky) hamsters", but I just can't believe that Prickles II actually LOVES THE SOUND OF A VACUUM CLEANER!!!
Our hedgie is very timid and we have to move him to a different floor when I vacuum the house. I think he'll have a heart attack if he had to face a vacuum cleaner head to head!
Hope you'll have no more escape-incidents until he safely moves into your new house.

hahah, how cute. Hemi hissed at the vaccuum cleaner the first time she heard it.
Hemi has never been called a hamster before--- oh wait, my boyfriend called her that once. "Hey Court, there's something wrong with your hamster. Its fur is all.. hard."
*looks perplexed and slightly amused* "Oh really? Gee, well... I don't know why her fur would be hard like that. I guess it has something to do with the fact she's not a hamster. She's a hedgehog. And that's not fur. It's quills."
"Oh."
"Yeah. See? You've upset her. Go ahead and pet her now, say you're sorry."
"Uhh... No thanks."
(BTW.. he did it later, when I was at school. He picked her up, and cuddled with her.)
