My darling hoglet Milton :hedge2: was born on Februrary 16th of this year.
He is a happy curious and active hedgie, warming up to us in due course.
Lately I have noticed that when hedgie sleeps, he sometimes cries out and jumps and then goes back to sleep. There are no outside noises which could have startled him at that instance. I wonder if Milton has nightmares... :( Do you have any experience with this and is it normal? Thank you for your imputs.

Ci Wei was born on December 20th of last year, and when I first brought him home, he did the same thing quite frequently. He still does it once in awhile, but I think it has slowed a bit. I just figured if it's anything like our dreams, he'd be fine after he realized where he was. Sure enough, he seems okay. Maybe he needed time to adjust - who knows? :dunno: In any case, I'd give Milton a little more time, keeping in mind that, just like people, hedgies probably have bad dreams once in awhile throughout their lives. They'll survive.

Murdoc is always making noises in his sleep- wimpers, snivles (sp?), cries etc. I always feel bad for him and gently wake him up and he is fine....I just feel bad for him because I think he is having bad dreams and I dont want for him to be scared and alone.

Hemi only had a bad dream once, I think... she was sleeping on my lap, and she hissed and then kicked me. Then she immediately calmed down and stretched out again, lol.

Thank you:) I am glad it's nothing serious. Let us all wish our hedgies good dreams only from now on ;)

i can't imagine what they're dreaming about! they say their eyesight is poor, and they rely heavily on their hearing and smell...

I haven't heard Monty go crazy in his sleep yet, just taht weird pulsating thing, but he's usually awake when that happens.

Pulsating, rattler sounds, snortling, hissing, popping - is there no end to their "vocabulary." I think the rattling (like a snake) and the pulsating are the wierdest, tho both stop once you wake them up. Every now and then Emily will be sleeping and just kind of jerk - like when you are falling asleep and think you stepped off a curb. I definitely think they dream. When she is falling asleep on me, she gets those droopy eyelids like a baby does - can't keep her eyes open - before she gives up and fades away.......zzzzzzzzz

Kahlua is a very vivid sleeper too. She makes little noises/cries in her sleep. She almost sounds like a whimpering puppy or a squeeky dog toy. I usually will say her name when she does this to calm her down, but she is usually in a such deep sleep when this happens and will totally jump when I wake her.
