Is it okay to give your hedgehog a salt block and/or a mineral block.
And should you give them one.

I doubt it would hurt them, but I also doubt they would use it, and so long as they are given a proper well rounded and nutritious diet, there certainly is no -need- for it.

I have heard of vitamin suppliments given to hedgies but have never heard of giving salt or mineral blocks/wheels to them.I wouldnt think that a salt wheel would be all that good for them.

Wouldn't it be too salty for them? Salt and mineral licks are used for horses and cows to prompt them to drink more water. Hedgehogs drink a good amount of water anyway, but I found recently that putting a couple drops of plain tea in their water also makes them drink more. I'd assume tea would be much more healthy for them, since it's a no-no to give hedgehogs alot of salt or spices.

What kind of tea? Herbal? I would think regular tea would not be good it is a diaretic(Sp?) if they are drinking more it is because the caffine is making them pee more. I am sure herbal would be fine but I would not give my pets drinks with caffine in them...

Because we needed to give Daisy vitamin K, we let her have some green tea. I don't know that it is fantastic for her but it is high in vitamin K, and she loves it.

I was giving Hemi normal tea, but in 8 ounces of water, she was getting two drops out of an eyedropper. I did that for a couple days as a way of maybe flushing an infection out of her body. The I stopped doing that since she was drinking just as much on her own.

Salt isn't actually bad for humans. It is nessasary. The problem is that you need to drink enough water to help your kidneys process the salt that you intake.
For hedgies...I think I would leave well enough alone. The certianly don't need it, so I wouldn't give it to them. If they don't drink enough water, it could cause some problems.
