What WILD hedgehogs eat

I found this list of stuff that hedgies eat in the wild and thought you guys would like to read it. :)

Insects, plus spiders and other arachnids, earthworms and slugs. They have amazing wolerance for toxins and will eat millipedes, blister beetles, bees, and wasps. They will also eat birds, especially nestlings and eggs, frogs, lizards, small snakes, and carrion.

How weird is that? I never thought they would eat all that stuff..lol

My aunt and uncle live in England and have wild hedgies that scuffle around in their backyard eating all sorts of slimey and crunchy things :)

I'll have to see if we still have them- I know there were lots of "bum shots"- how can you tell these guys and ours are distantly related? :lol:

My family must love hedgehogs! I had stuffed hedgehogs from Germany from the time I was very little, on. One of my favorite memories from our trip to Germany was the hedgehog family that would hang out in my aunts yard (she fed them). They were adorable. Even though they hedgehogs we have are from the european type, I had to have one when I first saw them here. :)

From what I've seen, Europian hedgies look much different then the hedgies we have here in captivity. I think I read somewhere that the hedgies we have here are from Africa? (something like that) I would also love to see pics though!

The hedgies we have are called African Pygmy hedgehogs......here are the kinds i know of:
