Hi all,

First, a funny story... Ci Wei's wheel had stopped squeaking after I loosened the tongs that hold it, but recently it started, and is worse than ever. The benefit of this is that I can tell when Ci Wei is on his wheel, like last night. I kid you not, that silly hedgie ran full speed ahead almost the entire night! He had a few brief breaks, and I did sleep a couple of hours, but I also lay awake for several hours and he ran, and ran, and raaaan... I even snuck out to take a peek, and while it was still pretty dark, I could see his silhouette on the wheel (is it me, or do hedgies gallop almost like a horse?). This morning, sure enough, I awoke to the poopiest wheel I've ever seen in his cage... all from one night of running. On a side note, he barely even touched his food last night, whereas in previous nights he was eating most of what I put out (not much... just enough to cover the bottom of a small plastic dish, but there was always some left over too). You'd think with all that exercise, he'd have had quite an appetite, wouldn't you? :hyper: Oh well... I'll just keep an eye out for a few days to make sure he does eventually start eating again. I was worried 'cause he seemed to be gaining weight and had developed a habit for "nervous binging" during the daytime, finishing what he hadn't eaten the night before, so I cut down the amount of food I put out each night total, and that way there was enough for a small snack during the day, but no bing eating. And since he's started using his wheel, he seems to be more of a healthy weight again. Yea!

Also, another question I have is about his color. The breeder told me he was what she'd call a cinnacot, but that some others might call him something different. I looked on the color guide site for the IHA, but the closest I can guess is something near to a Champagne or Apricot color... he has almost no pure white quills, but most are banded with a pale orange-beige color. The thing I can't figure out is that he has a pale blue outer "sclera" on each eye, which I know some hedgies have, but I can't seem to find that in correlation with his quill color on the IHA site's guide. Here's a pic (I know I've shared it before, but maybe it will help). Any info would definitely be great. Thanks!

how old is ci wei? usually they say you can't really make a final decision about their color until 1 yr old. I have the same "gray" area regarding Monty's color...i'm just going to wait to figure it out.

from the site, champagne/apricots have ruby eyes, so i would still say he's a cinnacot...depending on which type, that's another question...my guess would be black-eyed cinnacot.

Ci Wei is a little over 3 months. Actually, he'll be 4 months on the 20th. I hadn't heard that about the colors, as I'd kinda heard they usually stick to close to the same colors, but it makes sense it could change a little. Either way, he's a beauty (of course, I could be just a little biased). He's so sweet... yesterday I gave him a foot bath and sprinkled some flea & tick powder that his breeder recommended as a preventative to mites (I haven't read anything about doing that on here, but the breeder gave me the name of the one she recommends, as well as where to get it). Anyway, I was handling Ci Wei all over yesterday, and while I don't think he liked it, he didn't hiss or click or anything... just gave me dirty looks that said "Would you PLEASE put me down?!" Oh well, he's cute. Thanks for the reply. I'm still curious as to his color, but I'll just wait and perhaps take him to a show sometime and let a judge determine it. Thanks again!
