Is it okay to feed tiny bits of good quality kitten or cat food to hedgies? Thought it might be a good source of protein for them and a break from all the hard crunchie stuff they eat! Mine aren't crazy about mealies or crickets or chicken, so I wondered if they would like the canned food.

It's perfectly okay. Mine personally won't touch the stuff, but it's fine as a treat if they like it. As long as it doesn't replace the crunchy stuff (which is what their teeth are designed for) it would be a good protein source.
If you want a suggestion for treats, try boiled veggies. Mine loves cauliflower, turnip and sometimes even raw lettuce. Just keep trying to find things they like and eventually there will be one treat they like :)
