So the situation with stitch has deteriorated yet again. I have also heard a lot about fur chewing... I can figure out the behavior from just the title. Now I just saw him today bit twice at himself and he has been scratching himself a lot. I dont know if this constitutes the beginning of fur chewing or what the deal is. Other than the chewing thing he is now acting like i did when I first got him. I think i'm going to try to go back to square one. I'm going to try to leave him alone and just give him a peice of an unsweetened shredded wheat square (thanks guys) daily so he learns that i bear treats again. Also I'm not going to personally carry him anywhere at least for a while I'm going to use the chinchilla carrier I just got for him and use that to transport him to and from playtime. I still don't know how to get him into it without chasing him though he likes his play time too much. I know it will take some time for him to get used to me again... if this happens every time i go away for the weekend he is coming with me from now on. I'm kinda at the end of my rope here I hope this works. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks for your support guys. Like I said before the only pets i have had are fish and a turtle... and they don't have issues like this.

Yeah, the main thing here is patience. That's about all I can tell you. I've had chins that love to be held from day one, and one's that i've had for a couple years and still don't like to be held for more than a couple seconds. So even if you think you've been patient enough, and he still doesn't want to be held, it just may be the way he is.

He could just have dry skin (how often are you letting him dust bathe?), or grooming himself. My girls bite at their fur a little but they seem to just be grooming when they do it, bo fur comes off. Don't freak. As Rich said just be patient, sounds like he needs to adjust again. Continue to talk to him and bond with him...good luck!

ya know, the more you write about stitch's behaviour, i am really leaning toward's something happened while you were away.. not saying your sitter wasnt competent.. but chin's do not usually exhibit such backward's behaviour just cause the owner went away for 2-3 days..
most get over being left the same night you come back, or at least the next day... your's is acting like you just got em...
:dunno:

I agree. I have left my guys for three days straight with a sitter and I never witnessed any personality changes that extreme.(I had 11 chins at the time)
