So I heard from my breeder, and I'll be getting my hedgie in about 5 weeks! I've been slowly getting together the things I need, and one of the things I decided to go with is one of those Rubbermade bins as a cage. I got one that seemed to be the right size but, when I put the wheel and food dish in, it looked a bit small to me. Or, am I just imagining hedgies to be bigger than they are? Anyway, here are the interior dimensions of the cage that I have - can someone let me know if it's too small, on the big side, just right, whatever?
Length: 27 inches
Width: 16 inches
Height: 13 inches
Math isn't my strong point!

It's an okay size. I would recommend a top (maybe another bin upside down) because some hedgehogs are escape artists (the previous owner of Houdini had the 2-bin set-up & had to drill holes into the lip of each container also so that they could tie them together to keep their previous hedgehog from escaping). You will probably want to drill air holes too since an enclosed bin isn't the greatest air-circulation-wise.
Most hedgehogs will not reach the size of my Houdini (he's a monster--weighed in at 1000g!), and Houdini is not half the width of the floor.

That is about bare minimum for size. If you can, I'd go bigger. After wheel food dishes an igloo or hedgiebag and there won't be any room left. :)

(I wish there was an edit option) I want to add that Houdini is no longer in the bin. He's got a new place: 42x28 floor space (modified dog cage). He's fat and needs the exercise it takes to find his food. :) See http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v288/j4782/Houdini%20Mochi/

maybe get a taller bin or a 2nd bin and add a 2nd floor to it or attached the 2 bins together with PVC pipes

That's what I was thinking.
So, what size bin should I go with?
And thanks everyone for your suggestions!
