I would say the average span is 4-5 years of age. I lost two at the age of 4 to cancer and I currently have one female who turned 4 and is doing well other than her eating disorder- she eats anything and everything in front of her nose!! :)

The average hedgehog from a breeder lives 3-5 years, assuming it is from a reputable breeder and well cared for by the new owner.
Also, keep in mind that even the most well cared hedgehog can have a heart attack or stroke and drop dead.

Yeah, I'm already dreading when Hemi decides to go. They sure burrow their way into our hearts quickly.

I don't have nightmares about it... it's a natural progression of life, but it will be difficult to cope with at first.

It was so sad when Prickles I died and we had had her for 5 weeks. Prickles II will be even harder!
