This morning I got up and looked in Mikey's cage and he was still poking around. The cage was a disaster! What a poopy mess! It looked like Mikey decided to invite a few friends over and have a wild party! So I set myself to the task of cleaning up his cage.
The first thing I noticed was that he didn't ball himself up as soon as I reached into the cage! He just looked at me and kept digging around in his digging box. Then came out and looked at me. I had to remove everything, so I put Mikey in his hedgiebag and handed him to my 9-year-old daughter, Meggie. Normally, when I change the liner in the cage and she's holding him in his bag he's popping the whole time. This time, she sat down and placed the bag on her legs like she usually does and he actually came out to say "Hi"! Meggie didn't know what to do!
I changed the liner, washed the wheel and litter box, his cat ball, got a new toilet paper roll and found a new hedgiebag since I noticed his was now a mess from his poopy little feet. Honestly, I don't know what the boy did last night, but he must've had fun!
At that point, I figured we might as well wash his feet since he was so mellow. So we put him in a little water and he wandered the sink, happy as could be. At this point I was wondering just what happened to our cranky-pants hedgehog.
Took him out of the sink and wrapped him up in a towel to keep him warm for awhile and he wanted to play! He was so friendly for about half an hour before I decided that it was time for him to go to bed and Meggie to go to school. He crawled over me, over Meggie. We were able to pet him, pick him up. No biting, no popping, no huffing.
He may go back to being frightened tonight, but we sure enjoyed him this morning!
