I would really like all of our hedgheogs here at school to have nice big cages to run around in, but because of limited space and funding, we don't have the ability to provide every hedgehog with his own big cage. We have 6 hedgehogs as of right now, 5 after I win Hotaru at auction and take her home. Boss Hog and Squirt both have their own cages, but they're small. Shadow and Harley share a large cage, they're brothers adn they get along well. Ma Hog has her own large cage. I would like to be able to move hedgies around so that they can all have a big cage even if they have to share it. The only problem is, Squirt will not get along with Shadow, even though Shadow is his son. Shadow doesn't mind him, but Squirt tries to attack him. Boss Hog and Squirt fight, and I don't really know if he'll get along with Shadow and Harley anymore. None of them can house with Ma Hog because we don't really want any more babies for a while. Can anyone give me suggestions as what to do about this? We really don't have the funding for any more cages, which sucks because i would really like these guys to have something better before i leave...

Hedgehogs are for the most part solitary creatures and like most species males cannot be housed together. Sure they might get along now but you may just walk in some morning and have to clean up body parts because the boys suddenly decided they didn't get along.

Some females will get along and actually enjoy having a cagemate but this isn't always the case and shouldn't be counted on to happen.

There is no easy fix to this. If there isn't the room or funding to house each hedgehog individually in a suitable sized cage, then there shouldn't be as many hedgehogs. IMO it's just not worth risking injury or death by trying to cage them together. :)

A large rubbermaid container cost like $10.00. Why not get one or two rubbermaid containers? If modified correctly they can be stackable.
