Hemi is back from the vet's with the verdict.

She has a malignant tumor on her leg, and it has spread upwards past the joint. Since not alot if actually known about hedgehogs, the vet couldn't give me an idea of how long she has, but with any other animal... not alot of time.

But since her quality of life is good, she's eating/drinking, wheeling and walking normally, she said to just ignore it*. When she starts appearing to suffer, then I'll put her down.

* She said this because I refused to amputate or do any form of treatment. Hemi has been on meds enough lately.

About how long do you imagine she'd have, since I'm not willing to do any treatment?

I am so sorry. This has got to be so hard. Did the vet say how fast growing it was?

Since not alot is known about hedgehog cancers, she couldn't give me a definate answer. But from what I've seen in xrays, last month it was contained to the joint. Now, it's just a little bit outside the joint. Her leg has been swollen for about 2 months now, so it doesn't appear to to be moving too fast. I think her overall health has something to do with that though. She's very healthy otherwise, so that may stunt the cancer growth a bit.

Thank you.... right now, she's sitting on my chest and licking my cheek. She gave me a kiss in the vet office - licked my lips and then chirped at me. Even mom teared up a bit.

She's so special...
