This afternoon we helped our old man Pagen cross the bridge. Pagen was 4 and was our oldest hedgie. Pagen was slowing down and showing his age. In recent months he had become incontinent and needed baths every 3-4 days as he would pee in his bed. On Saturday evening Pagen had a bath and he was fine.
On Wed when giving him another bath I noticed his mouth on one side was swollen. By morning it was even worse but I couldn't get a vet appointment until today and it was even larger still. It was a very aggressive mouth tumour that had invaded his jaw. I can't believe how fast that thing came on and grew.
Pagen was a wonderful boy, very friendly and so full of life right up to the end. He is survived by numerous babies including Kesia his daughter and Kendi his granddaughter.
Below are photos of Pagen eating crickets, his fierce look and the tumour.
We miss you and love you old man.
