I know baby hedgies sleep more than adult hedgehogs, but is it normal for them to go without wheeling? Her wheel is completely clean. She wheeled the night before last night and boy, have I forgotten that baby pee smells a bit worse than adult pee.

It's probably nothing to worry about, and she's probably absolutely fine due to her big day yesterday when she was playing outside (she ran from one end of our yard and back....twice!) but I just like to make sure.

how old are your limits for being a "baby" vs. and "adult"?

lol, then i guess monty's still a baby (3.5 months). his pee is concentrated, and this week he didn't wheel for about 2 days straight, but then he ran for 2 and a half hours when he finally got going again.

I've noticed that there are some nights when Mikey's wheel is very clean like he didn't pay any attention to it, and other nights where he'll start very early and wheel like a maniac. Some mornings I'll find him asleep in his wheel!

He's 12 weeks old now.

Alright, then Vette is normal. I've just forgotten what babies are like, since Hemi hasn't been one for a while.

Glad to find this post! I noticed that I hadn't seen Abigail (8 wks) wheeling for a few days in a row. Emily goes all night long! I was hoping it wasn't anything, now you have all confirmed this "baby" behavior is normal. She's been in her sleep-all-day mode, but is gaining weight just fine! The two girls are now curled up alongside each other, sound asleep under their blanket! Way too cute to see them together! Lucky them! I could use a nap too!!!!!

LOL, I listen to Hemi wheel all night, and I didn't hear Vette, so I kind of wondered. It's nice, because Vette chirps and squeaks as she wheels, so I always know if she's wheeling or not. I know she ate last night (I see a line of crumbs into her igloo) so I'm not overly worried. It's just been a while since I've dealt with a baby.

so about what age did hemi start doing her fun things?

monty sleeps a lot, especially when I first got him. now he stays awake for about 3 hours every night (not including the time i interrupt him at night)

Well, Hemi got really fun at about 5 months old, when she was completely fearless and had warmed up to me. Then she figured out climbing me was fun, and spent HOURS climbing around, on, and up me. Her favorite spot was by far my neck, and she spent a good long time nuzzling the tattoo there.

As a baby, she didn't sleep alot, by any standards. During the day, and at some points during the night. As soon as she figured out how to wheel, she was on it all night, every night, and I spent alot of nights listening (and giggling) to her hiss and squeak when her wheel made strange noises.
