I am so sorry you are having such a hard time with this. I can not offer much in the way of suggestions. Just do NOT give up. Try to use a blanket or something so you can hold her. Then just let her sit on your lap. That way, she is being socialized with, but it is at least a little bit on her terms. Others may have better suggestions. Best of luck, and remember, it will come to an end.

Yeah it sure can be a pain, literally for them. I have 2 boys in the middle of quilling right now and they don't know if they want to be nice or grumpy. Pixel was very unsocial tonight but last night he was his normal self. Lots of fun.

What do you mean she won't let you give her a bath? A nice warm oatmeal or aveeno bath will make her skin feel better. Run an inch of water in the sink and plunk her in. Pour the water over her back, rinse and then snuggle in a nice warm towel with her.

Let he be as grumpy as she wants but still handle her and hold her even if you need to have her in her hedgie bag to do it.

If she thinks being grumpy will intimidate you, she'll continue the behaviour after she is finished quilling. :)

Just be extra patient with her. Quilling has got to be painful. Try to avoid turning her over onto her back as much as possible, as to not add any more pain to her back. I found that method worked well when Hemi was quilling. She was a holy terror, but only when she was on her back. She bit, hissed, popped... anything.

Wolfgang was a major grump-butt when he was quilling; he would start popping if we even looked at him. But we would just pick him up anyway and talk to him; it's really important for them to learn that huffing won't get you to leave them alone. With Wolfgang I would just lay down on my back and let him sit on my belly all night; eventually he would calm down.

He's been finished with quilling for about a month now, and he is a totally different hog. He loves to snuggle with us and he only gets huffy when we try to interrupt his very important box-arranging or running laps. :)

Just don't give up! Think of it as puberty for hedgehogs. :p
