I have a horrible ear infection and last night I couldn't sleep. I checked on prickles(at 3:30am) and there was blood in her cage. I washed her towel dried her and then loved on her. I can find nowhere that I see blood. Cleaned her frisbee and put her back in and can down this morning. Again I see blood on her frisbee. Picked her up and I see nothing? Any ideas?

Does she have a wheel? She could just be running her little feet bloody.

When you say towel-- do you mean actual towel-- if so please REMOVE it a.s.a.p-- towels have little loops that hedgies can get their feet caught in, she could have possibly ripped off one of her nails because of this

I think she meant she wash her, towel dried her, and then loved on her.
Oh, the power of commas.

Oops-- I guess I read that wrong, especially because there were no commas-- anyhow-- she could have still ripped off a nail somehow-- Marigold managed to do it in her cage one night!

I know, and it's scary. I accidently did it to Hemi during nail clipping once. She cried, I cried...I apologized, she didn't accept until I offered her some shreddies..

Thanks for translating:) I am going on almost no sleep. Prickles has vellux in her cage. She has a towel she covers in BUT is is one made of that flower sack material.
Might be her feet because all her nails are in tact. I took her wheel out and she seems bummed but I think a few days off might help.

Basically, her feet just need to toughen up. It's nothing serious, although the blood can be unnerving. I think leaving the wheel in there is fine, as long as it's cleaned everyday. But, a more experienced person should be along to back me up on this...

If it's from her feet you should see blood mixed in with the poop on her wheel. They can bleed alot from their feet and if it is all over the place in little foot prints then it is more than likely from a foot. If I see more than just trace evidence of blood I leave the wheel out for one night. If there is just a little bit of blood I leave it in but if there is more blood the next night, then out it goes.
Their feet do toughen up quickly. Just keep the wheel and her cage and feet clean until the bleeding is over and she will be fine.
If the blood is not on her wheel and is in one spot in her cage then it probably is not foot related and could be a UTI or uterine infection. :)

Nancy you always have such good advice. I am guessing it is her feet because I see lil footprints. It was just such a shock!
