Hi,
New to posting here. I work at a vet clinic (dogs and cats only) but I also used to work with a exotic DVM who I still ask for advice.
Here are two examples of what a mite looks like, if you were wondering.
This is Demodectic mange, normally associated with dogs and cats with debilitated immune systems. I see this on puppys alot. It is not contagious to humans, but we do have demodex naturally on us.

Now this is a puzzler. I skin scraped my hedgie last night because has has been loosing quills since she finished nursing her baby hogs. I thought it was sarcoptic mange. But it honestly looks more like an ear mite under the scope... I scraped on Mama's bottom! No where near her ear. Has anyone else had this happen?

if it looks like mites treat it with revoulution it wont harm her and is safe to use as a precautious measure to make sure that they dont get mites.I have heard that it is even safe to use while pregnant.if she is still nursing I would make sure it wont hurt the babies.

AHA, I contacted the exotic vet and she did say there was a sarcoptic mange mite that looked EXACTLY like a cat or dog ear mite! I have treated both hedgies with revolution. She also suggested the ivermectin route, but I'm going to just do revolution and see if it clear up this way, I have heard bad things about ivermectin and hedgies....
