I got a Cuisinart Smart Power Duet. It is a blender and a food processor. I really like it.

I've used food processors belonging to roommates... and I'd rather use a knife. I always manage to cut my thumb open when trying to clean the blades on the food processor >.<

I have the smallest Cuisinart. I think it's called the Mini-Prep. It works great, but it cuts juicy vegetables, like red peppers, almost too finely. However, for things that need to be chopped finely it can't be beat. I'm especially impressed with how well it handles ginger root.

For just slicing/dicing etc I have a Bron Mandolin Slicer. Which may be a bit pricey for you but you can find less expensive Mandolins. For feeding the lizard, I use a 1 cup food processor I got at Walmart for 5.00. It's two years old and does a great job on small batches. Like a half an onion or 4 stalks of celery for potato salad or even dicing a half dozen eggs for egg salad.

I have the Cuisinart Smart Power Duet Food Processor/Blender too! It slices, dices, minces, blends, you name it, it's fabulous! I do worry about my fingers a bit with the slicing blade, but so far so good :). I've only had it since Christmas but Cuisinart seems to be a good brand so I'm hoping it will last!

Well, I'm old school... I use the original, french-made Cuisinart. I have all the attatchments for it: pasta attatchemtn, different grinding attatchment. The best thing ever. YOu can make bread, pasta, pastry, veggie stew, almost ANYTHING, yeah, anything, in it, and it comes out great. My mom got the nickname "cookware queen" because she has so many friggin' cookwares and stuff, and so I use her old cuisinart a lot. It may be old, but it still works like clockwork!

I have a KitchenAid food processor (it's an... 11 cup one, I think) and a KitchenAid mini-food processor.

Truth be told I use the mini one A LOT but I love the big one, too.

That being said, if you are looking to start adding to your kitchen, you might want to look into a good-quality blender/ food processor combo.

You might also want to look into those food choppers. Zyliss makes one (and also sells one through The Pampered Chef), as does KitchenAid and other manufacturers. It's not electrical but does a decent job, too.
