Im trying hard not to cry but I cant help it.Two days ago I left my chinchillas in the bathroom I was playing with them for about 2 hours in there and I forgot about the drama presentation I had to be at in 10 minutes. So I though ok the toilet lid is closed theres some toys in there.I shut the door and hurried back up stairs and left the 2 boys in the bathroom.

I went to see if katie my ferret has in her cage she wasn't.I didn't have time to look for her because I had 10 minutes to get to the drama thing and she is out of her cage all the time anyway.

I got home 1 hour later I seen katie scratching to get into the bathroom I picked her up and she was coverered in blood so I put her in her cage and went back to the bathroom.I opened the door and fell to the floor. They was denice with the side of his face chewed off because of my lazyness.

They bathroom floor was coverered in blood I started to cry so hard my Boyfriend came running down stairs. He grabbed little Jerry and put him in his cage jerry looked so scared hidding on top of the toilet his eyes looked like "why did you leave us in here" My boy friend picked me off the ground and walked me to the couch.I cried for the rest of night because I was to lazy to put them back in the cage.He had to clean up the chinchilla.
I didn't know that my ferret would wake up.I didn't even know she could fit under the door.

I cant belive I let this happen its my fault not my ferrets. My friend said that we can go to the petstore the next day and pick out a new one.But I dont want a petstore chin and I dont want another one.

But Jerry hasn't been his self latey. He doesn't run around as much she doesn't have a cuddle buddy Im not sure what to do.I just cant belive I did that to them and my self

That's really awful...I'm sorry that your chinnie was killed. People make mistakes and you can't beat yourself up over it indefinitely. You now know the value of making sure your pets are safe and it will never happen again. Hopefully sharing your story will allow others to learn from your mistake as well and in the end save a chinnie or two. Again, I'm so sorry about your chinnie. I would get Jerry a cuddle buddy as soon as possible and give him lots of love...then maybe you can think about whether or not you want to get him chinnie friend when things aren't so crazy emotionally. Hugs...

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. For Jerry, try ordering a stuffed animal for him to snuggle with. Chinworld has one, called a cuddle buddy. (http://www.chinworld.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=CW110014&Category_Code=CW05) Make sure you by a safe one, that has no plastic parts for them to chew on. :) Stuffed animals made for infants work well. Many chins grieve over the loss of the loved one. Make sure to keep an eye on his eating, and drinking, to make sure he doesn't stop eating.

Again, I'm sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how awful it must be for you. My thoughts are with you.

Live and learn...that's really aweful what happened. I'm sorry you lost your pet that way. The best thing that can come of this is knowledge...you may've been careless this time but next time I'm sure you won't be. That won't bring your chinnie back...but I'm sure it'll prevent similar instances in the future. I've owned ferrets...and they can fit anywhere, I swear. There's a million what ifs and so on and so forth...but not much can be done now, just in the future. Again, sorry this happened to you...don't beat yourself up though, it won't help. We've all made careless mistakes that cost us dearly...just learn from it and don't let it happen again.

On that note, you may want to inspect your other chin. There's a good chance that it could be injured and with all the fur you could easily miss it. I wouldn't suggest rushing it to a vet as it could already be in a state of shock...but inspect it pretty good and try and make it comfortable and see if it settles back in. That's about the best advice I can offer. Again, sorry for your loss

A couple of years ago our 6 ferrets escaped their cage while we were out shopping and killed 2 of my daughters bunnies. The week prior to this we had made the bunnies a huge new enclosure. It was totally bunny proof but not at all ferret proof but our ferrets are NEVER out unless under strict supervision so we never thought anything of the cage not being ferret proof.

The ferrets must have worked together to get escape and when we walked in the door we were met by 3 of them. I rushed upstairs to my daughters room and our oldest ferret Bear was covered in blood and the 2 bunnies were dead. In her room was also a baby fuzzy lop, 2 chinchillas and hamsters. These animals were all ok as they were in regular cages. There was blood on the tops of the cages so obviously he had checked everything out.

Now our ferrets cages have locks on the one and only accessible door. The other doors have been ziptied closed as well as wired permanently shut. The cage panels which originally were held together by plastic connectors have been replaced by metal ones. The rooms that the other animals are in also have doors that go very close to the floor so that a ferret could not squeeze under.

We knew before this happened what ferrets could do but never dreamt it would actually happen. Now we won't even let the cat in the room when the ferrets are out for playtime. We don't want her getting comfortable with them just in case they ever escape again.

Unfortunately it is a hard lesson to learn and until it actually happens it is difficult to imagine how easily ferrets can and will get at other animals. Our tragedy has certainly made us far more aware of a ferrets escape capabilities.

I'm sorry for your loss. I know what it feels like.

I am so sorry for your loss. Thats an awful way for a pet to die. For now I guess all you can do is give the chinnie you still have some extra love and make sure the ferret cage and the chin cage are well secured with them in their respective cages before you leave every time.

Best of wishes. :angelpray: and again sorry for your loss

I feel horrible for the chin :( Poor guy.

Take it as a lesson learned. Next time---make sure the ferret is in the cage. I keep on stressing and stressing--ferrets can't be trusted with prey animals, they ARE predators. It's not the ferrets fault. He was doign what she should do--being a predator.

Oh my, how awful would that be for your chin and how awful would it be to see it.

We must live situations like this to know and to learn how to care our pets. Luckily you have Jerry and you have fill him with love and cares :) Maybe extra play time, or some snacks and toys..? Extra time with him so he'd gain trust again because I bet h is still scare of everything...

Extra hugs for you andfor Jerry and so sorry for your loss...
