My youngest girl is almost a year old she is the one who was the runt of the litter well she is albino but her skin is quite orange when I figure out how I will post a pic of her. all over she has a very obvious orange tint she eats hard food and different veggies and meats everyday ... I dunno if she is lacking something, getting too much of something or naturally orangish. Her dad had an orange tint to him too even though he was brown his skin on his belly was quite orange/peach so maybe this is normal...any thoughts?
thanks

Wow how unique. I'd love to see pictures. She isn't an apricot or something is she? Pretty interesting. At first when I saw this thread I thought maybe your hedgie had annointed with something and turned it orange

You know I think I was just assuming she was albino cause he mom is and she is white with ruby eyes however I would say more than have on her quills have brown tips , which of course albinos can't have color. The colour is so slight you have to be looking up close to see it... I wonder what she is ...
anyway thanks for the reply and the visual of her painting herself orange with food:)

Is this an even-all-over color or in spots here and there? Sometimes spots of orange is an indication of mites. Mites are easily treated with topical Revolution or Ivermectin (not the injection! The injection is easily overdosed and has been the culprit of hedgie deaths).

See What color is my hedghog? (http://www.geocities.com/hedgehogcolors/FormExample.html) for examples of normal colors and how color is determined.

it is not spots she is just all over orangish in colour it is definatly her skin tone. As for the dark spots on her quills they are at the very tips and she had then when she was born. I tried searching on hedgehog central and she kinda looks like a combo of a couple different colours...
anyway thanks for the reply if I figure it out I will share my findings

Hopefully someone who knows about fatty liver disease will come by. I don't know anything about it first hand, but I have heard that skin discolouration can be a sign.

She might be a champane or an apricot. They can look orange.

Champagnes and Apricots do not have orange skin. Orange skin is an indication of Fatty Liver Disease or liver damage/disfunction. Your hedgehog needs to see a vet ASAP.

OKay so a quick update for all those concerned as it turns out my hedgie got her orange tint from too many vegtables ... I limited her intake and she has returned to her regular color...luckily it was not anything serious...thank you for your replies

hrm, sounds right. eating too many carrots, and vitamin A rich foods/supplements will turn people's skin tone (especially the palms) orangish. many other veggies have vit-A as well. glad everything turned out ok.
