View Full Version : Chins and Quills together!
My roommate is thinking of getting a Chinchilla. My HH is almost a year. Do you think we'd have any hope of socializing them?
Thanks

Why would you want to? They have different diets, different environmental requirements and different habitats.
You know, Nemo is just a fairy tale, right? Animals do not naturally form interspecies relationships and even when they do, it's often fraught with stress and anxiety and typically the result of some emotional dysfunction within the animals.
I just meant like if we have them both out playing in the same room.....I don't mean for them to be best friends haha.
I'm just worried that we'll never be able to have them out at the same time.

That's a tough one. I let my cavy out for play at the same time as the chins but they have separate playpens. Same room but still separated. I would be worried about interspecies disease transfer. Each small animal has certain diseases they are prone to but another small animal may carry the bacteria/virus/ whatever without any harm. It's easy to keep an eye on both if you have them in the same room and entertaining. The hedgie will probably huff scaring the daylights out of the chin who will then start popcorning.

I've got both a chinchilla and a hedgehog. I let them out to play at the same time in the same room and have never had a problem. The hedgehog just doesn't care about the chinchilla. Every now and then the chinchilla will go over and sniff the hedghog who promptly curls up and hisses and pops. Chinchilla runs away and hedgie uncurls.

 That's exactly what mine do! Mouser goes over to the playpen to sniff Stewie, Stewie gets ticked off and balls up and/or huffs, to which scares Mouser so he goes bouncing away! Too Funny!!
