Hello everyone!

I thought I would introduce myself. My name is Patti, and last week I brought home my first chin .... Keela (gaelic for "beauty expressed thru poetry") is a medium tan, ten week old female. I may be slightly biased :) but I think she is perfect! :hyper:

Keela came from a breeder in Maine. She joins a household that includes myself, my husband, 8 dogs of various shapes and sizes, 3 cats, and an african grey parrot. (I'm an animal control officer, so the family constellation is a bit of an 'occupational hazard' :) )So far Keela has fit in perfectly, and within 24 hours of arrival was happily hopping into my hands every time I reached into the cage. Her latest trick is to run up my arms and sit on my shoulder :) Keela is one of the rare chins that enjoys cuddling, and her breeder (who has children, dogs and cats herself) did an absolutely awesome job of socializing my little girl. I feel very lucky.

I've been spending the past few days playing with Keela, reading the posts here, learning alot, and doing more than a little shopping

Nice to meet you all,

patti

Did you get her from Diane? She does a good job with socialization. I have two of her girls, and they are sweeties.

Hi!

Yes, Keela came from Diane Griffin in Maine. Diane told me that her children had been carrying Keela around and cuddling her ..... and it really shows.

I'm amazed that in only one week Keela is SO friendly. She loves to hop into my arms, to 'bounce' off me doing "swimming turns" as she scampers around the room during her playtime, and she just LOVES to snuggle into someone's lap. If she sees me now, she trots around the cage following me until I open the door and give her some attention ..... I've seen my cats asleep on the top of the cage, and Keela will be underneath them on a shelf, busy pulling their tails into the cage so she can play with them. The cats are learning that the top of Keela's cage is no place to get any rest, and Keela seems actually disappointed when she sees them hopping up on the furniture across the room instead.

I'm learning alot about Keela .... it's surprising how such a big personality fits into such a little body <smile> ..... she likes raisens, hates cheerios, but her favorite "treat" of all is anything that she can push or roll around. Some of my dogs are retrievers, meaning that our bedroom is a 'minefield' of tennis balls at any given time .... and when Keela is out running around she LOVES to find a ball that she can push and follow around the room ..... really funny.

Her cage is 5ft tall, 3ft wide and 2 ft deep ..... and it's quickly filling up with all sorts of toys, shelves, wheels, etc ....... I'm already thinking that maybe she needs a bigger cage .....

or that maybe she needs a playmate .........

is this how chin-itis starts? <LOL>
