Rosie and I have been together now for one day. My hopes and dreams of her magically being the cuddliest hedgie on the face of the earth from day one...didn't exactly come true. But still she is doing great. At the breeders house she was walking all over and letting me hold her and was super comfortable with the breeder. Now at my house she is much more huffy and poppy, with good reason. She is quilling and in a new environment, which I am sure is scary. She was such a sweetie and the breeders that I am hoping she comes out of her shell soon. Once I am holding her she walks around and investigates. She takes kibble from my hand but isn't interested in meal worms or crickets...maybe cause they are freeze dried. She hasn't even gotten close to biting me or Rob. She is eating and drinking well...the litter box is kinda a joke right now but I am not too worried. I think she is doing well but It still makes me sad that she huffs and puffs...I don't want her to be scared of me. The worst thing is that every time she pops I jump like three feet!! I can't get used to it!! I am such a weanie. Her liners and hedgie bags have Rob's and my scents on the them, so I hope that helps. The poor cutie just has a lot of obstacles to overcome right now and I want to do everything I can to make it easier for her. So any advice is greatly welcomed and appreciated!!
Thanks guys,
Kathy, Rob and Rosie

LOL, just give her time. You're right, she's scared. Wouldn't you be scared if you were suddenly picked up from the only home you've ever known, and driven hours away, and put in a strange new cage, with strange new people who smell funny? The fact that she investigates while being held is a good sign; she's not too scared to walk around. Add quilling to that, and it's no wonder she's a bit huffy.

The fact that she won't take treats is no biggie. For about 6 or 7 months, Hemi wouldn't eat anything except her kibble. So, don't be hurt or worried if she refuses any form of treat from you.

Having your's and Rob's scent on her things will definately help, as will cuddling with her every chance you get. Whenever you pass her cage, say "hello" to her. You'll eventually get used to her popping, as well. It's only startling the first three hundred and seventy eight times. After that, it's commonplace.

For advice, try bonding with her in the morning by taking her hedgiebag into bed with you. Cuddle her up against your chest, so she can hear your heartbeat. That, combined with the warmth of your bed will put her at ease and help her learn to trust you quicker. I think, anyway, since it worked for Hemi, and you know how she is.

Best of luck!
