I found yesterday that Caboose (my hedgie) likes to push around one of my hotwheels cars back from when I was really little. Would it be safe to let him continue to play with it?
Thanks in advance,
Landon

Awww, it sounds so cute that your hedgie is playing your childhood toys... Our hedgie enjoys pushing small cushions, toys, and other objects with his pointy nose like a bulldozer, so I can't see any harm in Caboose playing with your hotwheels cars. You probably should make sure that the cars don't have any small parts sticking out to poke his eyes or accidentally gets swallowed up though. BTW, Caboose is a cute name. Any pix of him on the hotwheels??? :)

My Wolfgang has a couple little cars like that too; he'll push one around for a bit and then violently flip it over. I can just hear the wrecking crashing noises he makes in his head.
He seems to prefer the convertible, I'm not sure why.

At the Kansas City Pet expo we had a larger plastic car they could get under and they would walk around with is on their backs :) I never thought to use smaller hot wheels. That's something I shall have to see :)

Houdini gets 2 hot wheels in his cage sometimes. He likes to grip them by a wheel, up-side-down. Occasionally he'll drag them to his sleeping area. :)
I would just add a word of caution. Make sure they're the newer, all-plastic kinds, not an older, painted type.

My gang have the metal painted ones. What is wrong with them? :)

They eventually chip and because they're older we don't know that the paint chips are safe (i.e. older lead-based paints for the red ones). They weren't designed for young children whole still put things in their mouths, so there's no way of knowing they're safe.

The metal ones I have are only a couple of years old, bought for the hedgehogs so I'm quite sure they would be non toxic as they are made for children even though not toddlers. They have a metal car body and the rest is plastic. The old ones I wouldn't trust though.
