Well I'm back with another question. When I spend time with Rosie I have a sort of routine. I sit and talk with her in her room (the den) for about 5 minutes. Then I open her cage and give her treats and let her sniff me. Then I take her out and "play" on the floor for a few minutes. Then I take her into the living room and let her sit on my lap and hide while I watch tv. So..my question is after about 30 minutes of tv time she gets really huffy and poppy. Does this mean that she is done with snuggle time? Do you think this is her way of telling me that she has had enough and wants to go back in her cage? This is what I have thought so I usually put her back in. Do you think this is the right course of action?

When she gets huffy, don't put her right back in her cage. Pet her some more, or she'll figure out that she can manipulate you like that. Hedgehogs are like kids... slip up once and they remember. LOL. So, when you figure she's had enough, keep her on your lap without touching her for about another 5 or 10 minutes, or until she calms down and then put her back in her cage. Establish that you decide when cuddle time is over. :)

Try feeding her as soon as you get her out. I find some of them are hungry when they get up and if I don't feed them they get huffy. Also, does she poo when you get her out. Some of mine get huffy when they have to go and they don't want to go on me. :)

 Oh, Nancy, Wolfgang is super polite like that too. It's very sweet. He's only had two "accidents" so far, both when he was really little, and one was right after a bath, so I kind of expected it anyway. But he acted very embarrassed about it both times; he ran off and hid behind the pillow for a few minutes and then he came out and snuggled right by my face like, "Geeez, I'm sorry.. Let's not mention it, okay?"

Thanks guys. Rosie is much much less huffy and rarely pops anymore. The pooping issue...yeah...she does...and usually on me. No big deal though :) Hopefully someday she will figure it out...or someone will invent hedgehog diapers...until that day, I will just have to deal with it :)

Like was mentioned the huff might have more to do with your baby needing food or wanting to go bathroom. I try to wake my hedgie up and leave her be in her cage for about 15 minutes so that she can eat and poo. When i don't do this i notice that after about half hour she will get restless too and it is usually cause she has to do one of the two things that i mentioned above...

I guess Hemi has no pride. LOL. I take her out, and while she doesn't USUALLY go on me, sometimes, a girl just has to! But she warns me by pointing her little tail. If I don't get the hint, I guess it's too bad for me.
