I've recently got a hedgehog a week ago. She is slowly warming up to me, and surprisingly, warming up to my dog. I have a border collie/german shepherd cross named Roxy. Roxy has been curious about Vette (my hedgehog) since day one. Vette is reluctant to open up to Roxy, or me for that matter so far, but those 2 seem to be slowly bonding. Vette will open up and check everything out when I let her wander around on the floor, and Roxy just gives Vette her distance and makes sure she doesnt wander too far off. I find a bond like this between the 2 animals amazing, and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced such behavior between their hedgehog and dog, or any other animal for that matter.

It's so cute that Vette and Roxy are warming up to each other... I do remember reading a few posts about inter-species friendships involving HH in this forum. I vaguely recall it was between a hedgie and a cat though. (I just ran quick search but couldn't find the posts. If I come up with the right keywords and locate them, I'll let you know.)

aww. I can't wait to see that. Roxy is just a little mother, isn't she? LOL.

It seems that way, I find it amazing just watching those 2.

ahuber, here's the latest example of inter-species relatonship; this time with a cat.

You can't force your pets to all get alone, but it surly nice and certainly *very* sweet when they decide to care for each other, isn't it?

We used to have Tisha out with our hedgehogs all the time. She loved being in the center of them all and they would crawl on her and tug on her fur and she just loved them. She would be waiting for us to get them out each evening. All went fine for months until...

One night we were all sitting on the bed as usual with Tish in the center, Jess and I on either side of the bed and the hedgies all around Tish. This was an every evening event. As had happened probably a hundred times before, one of them went into a hedgie bag. This night it was Peaches. All of a sudden Tisha was up in the air and landed on that hedgie bag on top of Peaches. This happened so fast that neither Jess nor I even had time to think about reacting. Luckily Peaches was ok but had 16 lbs of cat landed in the wrong spot and we very well could have lost Peaches. Tisha did not do this intentionally. I think it was just pure instinct.

Now when Tish is with the hedgies she is sitting on one of our laps and we have a hold on her, just in case. It only takes a second for a tragedy to happen.

Yeah, I'm aware to keep a close eye on both of them together.

That could have ended horribly, Nancy. I advised Adam to hold one or the other. :)
