ok, i joined a few years ago, and i've popped in a few times over the last year and was able to login, but as you can tell i just registered as in yesterday with the identical username as my account was deleted.
i would like to know what happened to my account, as in why it was deleted and why any old posts i find claim i was a guest, my email wasn't even registered as ever being used to create an account, it's not a big deal, but i doubt i'll be posting much which means it will be a long time before i hit that 50 post limit and i had over 100 posts, custom avie etc before my account was deleted.
any information on why the account was deleted would be appreciated.
thank you

There was a big purgue of members that were not active and they got deleted, not too long ago. It was said that you needed to log in between this day and this day, or your account would be purged(they gave you quite a while to log in) and maybe you didnt log in. If you don't log in often, thats very possibly what happened. I'm not a mod, so I cannot tell you for sure, but I'm pretty sure that is what happened. Many "nonactive" members were deleted if I remember right.

the Mods went through a while back and deleted inactive accounts, yours might have been in that group....

it would have been nice if a message had been sent out, i would have made sure to login if i had known that my account might get deleted, as it says the account is forever when you make it.

There were thousands of accounts purged that had had no activity within a certain amount of days.

Sorry, this is a free bulletin board. If you paid for membership, I can see us taking the time to personalize an email to each member, but as it is, there have been nearly 15000 users registered at some point since the begining of the forum. With only 3000-4000 active users today, you can do the math to figure out how many have been purged over that time.
Announcements were posted onthe forum for all (guests, non-logged in, and logged0in members) to see that purgings were going to happen. I usually announce at least a week before a purge happens. We go back a year to 18 months of NO ACTIVITY before we delete an account if there are more than 3 posts to the user's profile. If you have fewer than 3 posts, we delete after 6 months.
Also, many accounts have invalid email addresses attached to them as people change their accounts because of moving, school, work, choice. The potential number of bounced emails for valid accounts is more than I want my personal email account to deal with.
So, we go with the best and least painful for everyone solution: we post the announcement, wait about a week to 10 days, and then do the purge with a VERY generous inactive time window.
Regards,
The Admin.

i can understand the purge, and i know it's a free forum, it would be nice if there was a better notice of deletion, for those who don't skim threw every week, i was pretty sure i had logged in within the last 6 months(was sure i had logged in a couple of weeks ago when searching for hammocks) but i guess not.
18 months is not much of an inactive window for some people due to life changes etc.
perhaps when registering it should say that after 1 year of inactiveness the account may be deleted, at least then people would know it could happen.

I think 18 months is plenty of time. I would think you'd somehow find a way to log in once in 18 months, if not- i would assume that person is no longer a member here, or no longer wants to be a member.

Okay, first off, don't take this the wrong way. I do not mean to come off as snotty, and if I do come off snotty, or rude in any way, I do appologize. I jus want to give you my side of the story, on how I feel. Please don't take it the wrong way. :) ;)
Honestly, I don't think it's up to the administration to put a big red flag that says "HEY WERE DELETING YOU SO LOG IN NOW" the idea is to get rid of those who dont log in, and if they sent an email to everyone to say hey log in, or we'll get rid of you, that would defeat the purpose. I think 1 year is PLENTY of time to log in, and they gave you even more than 1 year. If you cannot log in at least ONCE within a year, then what the heck are you doing? You have a way better life than me. They werent sayingg that you had to log in within that week, they're saying that if you hadn't logged in in 18 MONTHS that this is the last week to log in or you'll be deleted.
You don't have to skim through it every week, you just had to have been logged in once within A YEAR AND A HALF! Thats a LONG time! They wouldn't have deleted you if you had logged in within the last 18 montsh(i dont think again im not a mod or admin, so I'm not sure) but I dont think so. I think that woulda just made people mad if they did that.....I'm sure many people don't go 18 months without being on the computer at all. And they're not saying you had to be on for hours at a time, just log in quick, while you're doing something else. Come on to check you email, and just log your account in if you want to keep it. You don't have to look around, or post or anything, just log in. It takes what? 5 seconds? And if people lose their computer or move or something for 18 months then find a library. Most have internet access and again you dont have to be on for a certain amount of time, just within a ayear and a half!
As far as telling people, again I dont think it should be their responsibility to tell you that you need to log in so often, or you'll be deleted. Go to some other boards once, and if you don't log in within 6 MONTHS, you get deleted. It happens. And they're way less liniant than it is around here. A lot slides around here, and on a lot of other places, you get banned for some of the stuff that happens here. THis board is pretty generous with it's members, and I don't mean to sound rude, but I don't think it's fair for you to tell them that they should tell you to log in. You signed up for a purpose and if that purpose was fulfilled and you stopped logging in, then you shouldnt be upset that you were deleted, and if it wasn't fulfilled then you should have logged in within 18 months. Like galtinel said, it wasnt just posted for members, guests and those not logged in could see it too......Okay. I'm done. :)
