First, I hope you've done a lot of research before buying. If so, good for you! :)

Breeder List (http://hedgehogcentral.com/breederusa.shtml)
This is a list from Hedgehog Central that has breeders listed by state. You can also check out Hedgehog Breeders' Alliance (http://hedgehogbreedersalliance.com/breedermembers.htm) (also listed by state). With these two, you'll know you're contacting a recommended breeder. The HBA has very strict ethical codes and is a good place to start.

If you'd consider it, check out the Hedgehog Welfare Society (http://groups.yahoo.com/hedgehogwelfare) and see if anyone in the area has a hedgehog to adopt. There are pros and cons to adoption, usually a smaller price tag with a cage, toys, etc., but also the potential for health problems and major vet bills. At the same time, recues are a great joy. I have one myself & he's very fun!

Stasi Kanyuck is Terrapin Hedgehogs. She's in Northern MD, not too far from Southern NJ. Matt Teymant is in NJ but isn't currently breeding, although he does have hedgehogs and might be open to a visit. Neither would be listed on the Hedgehog Central list or the HBA list due to political issues but both are ethical breeders.

Matt Teymant's contact information may be ForeverBlueMondayHedgehogs@yahoo.com He had some health issues and had dropped out for a while but he's slowing coming back. If that doesn't work, PM me your email and I'll have him get in touch with you.

thanks for all the info - honestly i have not researched but have been reading posts since i joined for the chin part and cant stay away from clicking the posts on hedgies!! I will definatally research before i decide to take one in, i have sugar gliders that also require lots of care and special diet so I am game for going out of my way and spending a little on diets. Is there a good site to learn about hedgies or a good book. My vet sees exotics so I have that covered but i want to learn as much as i can before I think of actually buying or adopting one.But like i said, I would love to see and hold one. I had seen one about a year ago in zoo's pet store but I was in a rush and havent seen one since than so I am thinking they arent licensed for them!!
