Hi everyone. I wanted to find out everyone's opinion on Iam weight control food. I am trying to find a light combination for Miracle, since she is getting to be quite a porker. I wrote down the information from the label, and it says it is between 11 and 13% fat, 28% protein, and 3% fiber (which I could supplement with grape nuts). I tried to price some of the recommended light foods to see if it was affordable for me, and with all of these medical bills, not so much. Please let me know what you think about it, or if you have any other recommendations for how to help her lose weight, or more affordable food combinations. Thanks for your help.

The breeder I got my hedgehog from (who is a very well-respected breeder and the originator of hedgehogcentral.com) said that Iams was not a very good food. It's supposedly very bad for their livers, even the light version. Also, Iams has a lot of meat by-products, which is basically the guts and skin, etc. Perhaps try Royal Canin Light 37? Its a good quality food, and if you buy the little sample baggies (which last at least a month or so) then its not too expensive. I believe that a 1 lb. bag is about $3-5 CAD, which is not a bad price. I know that my hedgehog loves this, and the small bags are great because the food stays fresher than buying a huge bag. I know that it's a slightly more expensive food, but it's worth it for your hedgehog's health.

I would not go with the Iams... for the same price, look for Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul Light. Better ingredients and a higher quality food with good fat and protein ratios. The sell sample bags for $1.99

Iams is a horrible food... it contains corn and by products. I would go with a holistic food instead, like Innova, Chicken Soup, Wellness, etc.
In my opinion, Royal Canin is not good either. It is overpriced for the low quality of ingredients (like corn).
