Hi I am a rather new to the chin world. I have had chins for eighteen months and I often wonder what other chin owners housekeeping hours are like. I have noticed a big increase in housekeeping time when I went up to 10-12 chinnies. Are there any general comments the expereinced owners would like to share on housekeeping?

A good portion of my free time is spent cleaning my kids (see sig below)
I have a pretty set routine which helps me do things pretty efficiently. I try to thoroughly clean 2 chin cages a night.I wash all their water bottles every other day, they get clean bowls weekly. They have set dustbath nights and times. Of all my critters, they seem to be one of the easiest to maintain though.
I spend a lot of time cleaning hedgehog cages and accessories and my glider cage.

I have a harder time keeping up with my own housework. I usually do that on my days off and attack the whole darn house

I have quite a few chinnies, it takes me about 2.5 hours every week to change them. I typically clean them in the morning when they arent awake.

I don't know how your 'chin room' or whatever is set up so I only have some general comments.
1.Streamline everything. I don't do one cage at a time. I do one task at a time. All water bottles get filled at once. All feed dishes are filled. I have a tupperware pitch that I use to pour the food in. Use containers that have easy pour spouts.

2. Everything is dishwasher proof. I only use feed dishes, bottles etc that can withstand the top rack of the dishwasher. If it can't, it isn't bought.

Most nights, my daughter picks 2 out of food, water & hay. I do the other. Every morning, I give treat, just a chrunchie(not fruit) to check everyone. Everyone gets bathes at once. My daughter & I pass them out & then leave the room for 15 min. What a cloud! Then we both go in & take them all out. Thurs night, we clean all of the cages. The dishwasher is good for the bottles & dishes. Once you get a plan going, it's not bad! The twice a yr "deep clean" is still a pain. That's when we wish we had smaller cages. :-)
