I am getting a little boy a girl hedgie on Friday, and am told that they are in the same cage and have been since this person has had them.....when I get them should i seperate them right away? are they not solitary animals??

Yes, seperate them immediately and treat her as if she is pregnant.
Male and females should never be housed together as she will constantly be pregnant and when the babies are born they both will enjoy a meal.
The only exception is if one or the other or both have been neutered. If this is the case, I would confirm it with the veterinarian that performed the proceedure and then they could continue to be caged together. :)

Friday is not coming fast enuf, I was talking to the lady that has these guys and she was telling me that they keep escaping their BOX and running around through the house and playing with her 11 month old baby, they dont even have a food dish....she just scatters the food around the cage, I cant wait to get them and give them a proper home.

Whoa what was this owner thinking! I'm pretty sure those guys will be in better care with you. An hedgehog ain't a toy for a 11 months baby..

Im going out tonight to buy 2 cages for them and of course dishes water bottles, wheels, food, little igloos for both of them. they dont have ANY of this stuff....and they have had them for 2 months.....
they are living in a cardboard box right now, im trying to be as nice as pie to her right now with this but it is soooo hard to do....I just want to yell at her...I mean why get animals just because you think they are cute or pretty, why get them if you know absolutly nothing about them, they are living creatures, not toys or anything of that nature. REALLY IRKS ME!!! sorry had to vent lol
I cant wait until tomorrow to pick the poor sweetys up and give them the life they really deserve, i may not be an expert on hedgies but I have done ALOT of research on these guy this past year, I was going to buy my first hedgie from a breeder but as soon as I talked with her I knew that I had to do somthing.....what if she was to sell them to someone who though that this kind of enviroment was right, another person who knew nothing about them.....
I sure hope she isnt pregnate but have done alot of reading up on this aswell , haveing babies is not what I was ready to take on but i think I might be able to handle the situation a bit better then someone who knows nothing about bout this stuff, however expect LOTS of questionif she happened to be pregnate
ok sorry still ranting LOL just really gets on my nerves when I see people like this with animals.
breeeaaathhh LMAO

If I were you, once the hedgies were safely out of where they are now, I'd go back and give those people a good yelling-at!
I'd worry for the 11-month-old..........

What you could do is give each of them a beanie baby. Let them cuddle with it for a couple nights, and then swap them, so they get each other's scent. It'll make the transition that much easier on them.
And treat the girl as if she's pregnant. If, after 50 days, you don't see babies... feel free to to breathe easy.
