Hey all. Just posting to share a story, and couple it with a question and a bit of an update.

We had a thundershower last night. I guess it scared Hemi half to death, because I heard that "scream of death". Eep. Do most hedgehogs get scared of thunder like this, or is Hemi just a baby?

I woke up this morning and found her cage an absolute disaster area. I don't know HOW she managed to throw a bunch of litter across her cage, but she did. She was hiding in her bag, underneath the stuffed hedgehog toy I put in there (which is perfectly safe for her. No loops or tags or sharp areas).

Now for the update. I went out of town this past weekend, and was a bit wary of that fact. I had this feeling Hemi would choose this weekend to pass. But... she didn't. I phoned daily to check. Mom saved her kibbles for me, so I could count them. Apparently, she didn't eat too much on Friday, but it picked up the following days:
- Friday : 31
- Saturday : 42
- Sunday : 47
- Monday : 41

She's my little porker. She's maintaining a steady weight of about 475 grams, give or take a few based on the time of day I weigh her. Her wheel is gross, as it her litter box. But she was sure a happy little thing when I got home last night. I picked her up, and she snuggled under my chin and just purred. She refused to go back in her cage for about an hour (she hooked her little nails over the neckline of my tshirt and held on). She chirped when I came home, and squeaked so hard her whole body just shook. I knew she missed me, but I didn't think it would be that much. :hearts:

Hey, Marigold is scared of thunder also, but luckly I've never heard the scream of death! I'm glad to hear Hemi is doing so well! It's very sweet that she missed you! :D

hehe, the only time I hear Hemi scream is during a thunder storm. She calms right down if I pick her up and cuddle with her during the storm. Needless to say, she spent a good portion of the night with me. lol.

I think Hemi is an extremely rare case of a similar disorder known as "species identity disorder", where a dog's soul is trapped in a hedgehog's body....

I'm glad that Hemi is doing great and continues to lead an active & happy life. Keep us posted.

hahah, well... she has been known to sit down and whine like a dog, so maybe... lol.

And I'll definately keep you all posted. That way, I can get everyone's insight when I decide it may be her time to go (if she doesn't take care of that first).

Hemi sure is cute. And is also sounds like she is doing really great! A gross wheel and litter box = happy hedgie!! Have you noticed the swelling in her leg going down any more?

Aw, Hemi's scared of thunder. She's obviously attached to you. :) The hedgie scream of death also means: "Mommy, I need you right NOW!!!"
